✺ Frequently asked questions ✺
Q: Are Havanese good for allergy sufferers?
A: Yes, the Havanese breed is considered hypoallergenic. While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, the Havanese are amongst those select dog breeds that are less likely to trigger your allergies. There are two reasons for this. The first is that the Havanese have less dander (dead skin cells that flake off of the body) than other breeds. Secondly, their unique coat doesn't shed like many other breeds, which can be a major plus for pet parents with allergies. Regular grooming, however, is essential to keep their coat healthy and mat-free.
Q: What kind of personality does a Havanese have?
A: The Havanese are a very sweet and affectionate breed filled with an abundance of mischief and exceptional intelligence. They are sturdy, playful and very entertaining. They bounce around as if they have springs for legs with a comical personality, keeping you laughing a lot of the time. They are excellent with children, adults, and other pets. They are also remarkably trainable, especially for a toy breed.

Q: Do Havanese bark a lot?
A: Havanese are known for being quiet dogs. However, they will be on the alert whenever anyone comes to the home, including both strangers and people they know. For this reason, they make good watch dogs. This can be helpful for those who live alone or who are home alone during the day. As outlined by AKC, this is part of the breed standard for Havanese and an important aspect of their personality.
Q: What's the Havanese lifespan?
A: Hvanese Dogs can live from 14-16 years. The breed is generally very healthy and long-lived. They may live to be as old as 18 years of age when they receive proper care.
Q: How big do Havanese dogs get?
A: Adult Havanese weights usually range between 7 and 20 pounds. Some can actually be either larger or smaller and AKC doesn’t currently have a weight requirement for the Havanese breed, actually.
Q: Why should I have my dog microchipped?
A: Microchipping is the most successful method to keep track of a lost or stolen dog. A microchip is injected under the skin on the back of the dog’s neck in the same way that they receive a vaccination. Veterinarians and animal shelters keep scanners that read the digital number on the microchip. If your dog is picked up and scanned, your microchip company will be contacted, and they will get in touch with you. Many animals have been reunited with their owners thanks to a microchip. Contact your veterinarian about the possibility of microchipping your puppy.
Q: Do you ship your puppies?
A: Worldwide delivery is available. Shipping cost will vary. Hand Delivery cost includes the plane ticket for the person taking the puppy and the puppy, any vet or health certificate expenses, 2 nights stay for international locations. Contact US for an estimated price. If it is possible to deliver to you we will please give us 14 day notice for the flight.
Q: Can Havanese live in the yard if it’s fenced?
A: No, We would not advise it. Havanese are a very social breed, and they need to be indoors with the family interacting with daily life. They are not an outdoor breed; however they are willing to go for walks and play outdoors with the family.
Q: Do male or female Havanese make better pets?
A: There really is no difference between the temperament of a male and female. We have noticed that the males can tend to be just a little bit more loving and snuggly. We have heard it said, and believe it to be true, that a female will love you, but a male will be in love with you. We honestly feel any family would adore either a male or a female Havanese, as both make excellent pets. If someone doesn’t have a preference and both options are available, we will usually recommend a male.
Q: Will my puppy be house-broken?
A: At 9 weeks of age, puppies are too young to be house broken. However, they are trained to the point they will not soil their bed. That is, they will come off their bed and onto the potty pad to relieve themselves.
Q: Are Havanese good with children?
A: Havanese are excellent dogs for children. They have loving, open, and playful personalities! They remain energetic and playful throughout their entire lives. When raised in a home with multiple children, they will develop different games to play with each child. They are happy spending time with members of the family, regardless of the activity. Some of our favorite things to do with our dogs include camping, hiking and going for walks.

Q: What is the cost of a Havanese puppy?
A: Havanese prices can vary greatly depending on several factors, including the breeder, the age and lineage of the dog, and even the area of the country in which you live. Havanese puppies for sale at prices up to around $1,200 to $1,800 are often sold by puppy brokers, pet stores who often purchase them from puppy mills and amateur “backyard breeders.” Puppy brokers are individuals who purchase Havanese from various sources around the country and resell them for a profit, and puppy mills are notorious for their inhumane treatment of animals. Havanese puppies from these sources are to be avoided at any cost.
So called backyard breeders are essentially individuals who breed and sell Havanese puppies as a part-time way to generate additional income. They lack the experience, education and resources needed to provide a nurturing environment, and their puppies often have health issues caused by poor nutrition and careless breeding practices. They also tend to have more behavioral problems due to the lack of socialization. Havanese prices for puppies sold by reputable breeders can vary widely from around $3,300 – $4500 or more. Unlike brokers and puppy mills, whose primary concern is profit, professional Havanese breeders are concerned about the betterment of the breed and placement in appropriate new homes. They provide the best breeding practices, nutrition, medical care, overall environment and carefully screen potential buyers to ensure their puppies are placed with loving owners.
A reputable breeder will provide you with vaccination records, Veterinarian Health Record, feeding directions, AKC paperwork, microchip documentation, pedigree documentation and ongoing support to ensure a safe and smooth adoption. Reputable breeders also offer health guarantees. In addition to the required 2-year guarantee, Royal Flush Havanese offers an extended 6-year health guarantee provided your new puppy is kept on our recommended dietary regimen.
